Arsi Negele

In Arsi Negele, a province characterised by savannahs and sparse acacia forests, 200 km south-east of Addis Ababa, families live widely scattered and way too far away from water points. By distributing donkeys, the WaterFoundation is helping to ease the arduous everyday life of the population, especially for girls and women.

Realisation

On 26 March 2014 and 28 November 2015, donkeys were given to women here. Over a period of about four weeks, more than 100 pack animals were purchased at various markets, cared for on the premises of the local Eternity Gospel Church, and equipped with carrying racks and water canisters. About 50 donkeys are to be distributed in the next few months in the context of spring water catchment projects in the Shone area, about 240 km southeast of Addis Ababa.

Costs

An equipped donkey costs about 150 Euro including additional costs.
