Project launch in Tanzania

In the Morogoro region, in the rural Kilombero Valley, the WaterFoundation is launching a new project in collaboration with its local partner organization MSABI in March, 2026: 14 healthcare facilities will be equipped with safe access to clean water, improved sanitation facilities, a water tank and hand hygiene infrastructure.
The project builds on a successful predecessor project. Feedback from the predecessor project shows how big a difference this makes for patients and their families: A patient from Lukolongo reports: “In the past, visiting the clinic was a health risk because there was no water. Now everything is clean – we feel safe when we are treated here.”
Naima Nyambo from Njage says: “I used to be afraid of the water quality. Today, the new well and ceramic filters give me great peace of mind. We finally have clean drinking water right in our facility without having to bring water from home.”
For families with children, visiting the clinic has also changed fundamentally: “Taking a child to a clinic without water was very difficult. The revitalization of the old water points has breathed new life into this facility. With the new hand washing stations and reliable supply, everything seems cleaner and more inviting,” reports Mama Antonia from Njage.
To ensure that this progress is sustainable in the long term, the project focuses on intensive training for local water committees. They are introduced to operation, maintenance, and financial planning and work with the population to develop clear responsibilities. “We used to feel helpless when water points failed. Now we understand how to manage resources and maintain the new pumps and tanks so that water will continue to flow for our children and grandchildren,” says Juma Kolakola from the health committee of the Machipi health facility.
With this project, the WaterFoundation is contributing to reliable health care in rural areas while strengthening structures that will continue to have an impact beyond the end of the project.
