Ethiopia: Climate protection and clean water

Women in particular are delighted about the safe and reliable access to water

Major progress has been made in the project to improve water supply and resource conservation in rural Ethiopia:

All 200 identified defective water points were completely repaired and put back into operation by June 2025. This prevents deforestation in five districts of the South Gondar zone, where firewood is used to boil water from contaminated sources.

Thanks to the functioning water pumps, around 60,000 people in 12,000 households now have access to clean drinking water, which significantly improves the health and quality of life of the population.

200 local WASH committees have been established, 155 of which have already received comprehensive training on operation, maintenance, and hygiene.

Water quality testing was carried out at 136 locations, and all water points were chlorinated and equipped with measuring devices.
